Knocking the ball out

Seriously annoying!!!!
Just playing a game in fifa and whilst I remember I thought I'd post on here to see if anyone has a solution or the same issue!
The ball gets booted upfield towards your goal for example, your defender runs up to it but its clearly going out for your throwing. However, your defender thinks the most logical thing to do is touch it just before it goes out and they get the throwing!
I keep clicking the "cancel" button (R2 and L2) but they still automatically attempt to go for it!
It's such a simple fix but really bugs me!
